I hate this, but Grand Cherokee is out of the offroad game now.
The 98 could pretty much do everthing a wrangler could, with just a lift kit, no need for taking off body parts and shit.
Now look at what happens when you take a GC to moderate offroad
Those exhausts damn..

I think the Wrangler is the only real truck that's still really in the game. The Power Wagon and Raptor are too big to really count, and everything else has gone soft.

I agree, and excluding the 4 door wrangler, i think a longer wheelbase isnt helpful in offroading (like the pictures of the post)

Rock crawling and hard core trailing I'd go with air lockers as the air compressor is multi use and from my rudimentary knowledge they(air lockers) are a little stronger. For sand and light trail work the e-lockers should be sufficient enough.

But this is all just me and my opinion so take it as you will.

Air lockers in IMHO. More expensive but worth the money.

set up on my XJ is as follows

Front 30 still with a lockright locker that replaces spider gears,

Tera 2LO shift fork in the t-case

Ford 9" rear with ARB air locker.

Now since I got the 9" & ARB I haven't wheeled it, but before I had a D44 with a Detroit. I would almost always be in 2lo unless I start spinning and shift in get over obstacle then back to 2lo.

The 9" is overkill since I run 33" tires, but I should never have to deal with it again. Also set that up before marriage & kids....

you just might be suprised what the 4 doors can do, saw one with rock sliders and different than stock tires do the same trails modded cherokees where doing. Granted he had to think more about his line but he made it

Land Rovers and Mercedes G-wagen still can off road. Also air lockers are better.

The Land Rover isn't going anywhere the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk won't go, and nobody would take a $120k G Wagon off road.
